Listening Differences. What ah?

Listening with great anticipation and wonder contributes to the cycle of communication. However, there are two main points relating to listening disturbances, that could actually lead to misconception of a certain message. They are; culture and gender.

The leading point of Cultural Differences would be Language and Speech.
For Example; When speaking to a person who has a rather rich British accent, you may find difficulties to completely understand certain terms or the message itself.
Next, Non-Verbal Behaviours. Speakers from different cultures have dissimilar rules or ways in which they have experienced. It may seem awkward to us, but normal to them.
For Example; With your right hand, join together your fingers forward, in a 'closing' manner, until they touch slightly, then move your wrist up and down and up again. Italians would take that as an offense, because you are displaying a disrespectful action. Where as, following the Arabic culture, it is an informal display, though not offensive, but an action of 'waiting' or 'to wait'.
Most cultures give direct and truthful Feedback, to messages. Even though various cultures view feedback differently.

Naturally men would try and divert a certain topic to another, presumably, to avoid or deliberately ignore the topic discussed. Listening differences when it comes to Gender, may take a heavy toll, despite trying to enhance our relationship status with others, regardless of sex. Women, converse rationally, as well as inserting a respectful gesture into the conversation. Where as men, when holding a conversation with them, some, may try to divert their attention elsewhere, as if they are not listening to what you're saying. This is normal, because, in depth research shows that, men, do these seemingly ungrateful display, because it is of their nature. Simple as that.

Our job is simply to just interpret the messages the right and logical way, so that misunderstanding and miscommunication wouldn't have to take place.

Mahira.
